Daylight Robbery 2

This deal comes from X-Clubs on 13/10/26. It was played in a teams event at our club, the second session in a teams event. Another case of daylight robbery? It certainly had shades of that

West opens 1S, North has a reasonable overcall of 2H and East has a perfect takeout double. At one table, South adventurously bid 4H. After all if partner could come in with a vulnerable 2 level overcall ..? West had a clear-cut bid of 4S and when it was passed out North led an unimaginative heart ace, continuing with even less imagination and the king of hearts. All declarer had to do to make 4S was to take two finesses in clubs and 4S rolled home

There are two things that a competent partnership can add to their repertoire:
1.The opening lead of the KING from AK in an agreed suit shows an outside singleton and
2. A jump bid in a minor suit shows a long (usually 5-card) side suit with at least four card support for partner’s major. I find this more useful than splinters. The reader might like to revisit last week’s article

In this deal, Deep Finesse would have doubled 4S and defeated it by two, but any sensible partnership of us humans would have settled for an undoubled down one, that would not have been a daylight robbery but almost as satisfying
