Also some pairs that we beat on the night at the Night Club are now ranked higher than we are. We were xx.68 and Maxwell xx.31 for instance. We came 999th.

The reply:
It's the nature of the beast, John. When you score across larger fields your club results gain sharper resolution. To summarise the research you can read about in http://www.compassmate.bridge-centre.org/nzw04, it takes about 120 pairs before the statistical relevance of a result can be nailed to within ±0.5%. You might also read http://www.compassmate.bridge-centre.org/karen01 to answer the second aspect of your question concerning placings. And also http://www.compassmate.bridge-centre.org/seesaw1 which explains why some go up and others go down by the same amount.

Thanks for your enquiry. The Night Club would be welcome to join X-Clubs anytime.
