Days and Times for NZX BBO Sessions

While lockdown persists and clubs are closed a team of friendly amateur BBO directors began by offering a list of daily 1PM and 7PM sessions open to all NZ players. Interest in the daytime sessions has lately fallen off as clubs return. The week-day sessions (except Friday nights) will be named starting with "NZX Club" and play 14-18 boards of the standard X-Clubs deals with a Swiss draw format when feasible. Friday nights and weekend sessions will be named starting with "NZ Club" and play random boards as no X-Clubs deals are produced for those times. Session results will be reported on this website (Results by Week tab above) and, at around 5:30 and 11PM, will be included in the daily score-across. You'll be able to see how your results stack up in a field of, usually, hundreds of other pairs playing the same hands at clubs around NZ. Click on Read More to .. well .. read more:

These sessions do not provide NZB Masterpoints. You must be registered with BBO to take part in a session. As we like to publish real names and your home club you can add your BBO name to the BBO Names Database if it's not already there - or ensure your name is showing in your BBO profile so we can add it for you.

Depending on interest and/or demand we might be able to provide more sessions if we can get directors willing to run a weekly session on BBO. And, when numbers fall off as clubs go back, so will we scale back the offerings. At present we have:

Weekly sessions and Directors. Search for NZ or the director's BBO name CHAMELI) (unless otherwise indicated)

Monday 7 pm with Nick Cantlon
Tuesday 7 pm with Michael Neels
Wednesday 7 pm with Alan Mace
Thursday 7 pm with Eunice Eccles and Calum Maclean
Saturday 7 pm with Judith Howard
Sunday 7:30 pm with Mary Buckland (registrations open from 5:30 to 7pm) (MBUCK1)

The late Karen Martelletti produced some excellent documentation about BBO (attached below) - click to download. It was written during the last lockdown, but most of it remains the same and it is a great document for finding your way around BBO if you are not familiar with it.

You will be able to register from two hours before the tournament starts, once the Director has listed it.

Both you and your partner must be online at the same time to register. One person invites their partner who accepts the invitation.

If you want to play and do not have a partner there is the Partnership Desk where you can put your name or find a partner if other people are already listed.

Don't worry if you make mistakes, for many of you it will be the first time you have played and it takes time to get used to it. Don't give up after your first experience if it doesn't always go right. Try again.

If you are a regular online player, appreciate that some players are new and be kind. Help them out.

Call or email me if you need help.

Have fun and enjoy the session. I look forward to meeting some of you at the table.
